Abstract
The authors prepared frozen-thawed-deglycerolized red blood cells from 9 units of CPDA1 packed red blood cells employing a high-glycerol technique. Mean recovery of red blood cells was 81.7% and most of the leukocytes and platelets were removed.
Post-transfusion survial was determined in three volunteer donors after injection of autologous 51Cr-labeled frozen-thawed-deglycerolized red blood cells. Mean 24-hour survival was 74.1% with a range of 68.4%-82.3%. In none of the studies was

sign of bacterial or fungal growth. Authors concluded that there were no major technical problems in the preparation and use of frozen-deglycerolized red blood cells in Korea.
